I Hate My Teenage Daughter, Fox’s latest foray into laugh track comedy is a complete failure, void of any humor, morality, or point. A fluff show that changes with interchangeable characters, it paints a picture of fearsome, erratically emotional single mothers, with bitchy, entitled daughters, which never makes for a good time, either on the real screen, or off.

I don’t know what’s most offensive: Jaime Presley trying to be funny, or this show’s portrayal of the average single mother. The two main characters are complaint-filled women, who don’t seem to have any of the normal worries of single moms. The writers couldn’t decide if they wanted to make fun of single moms or empower them, and instead decides to do nothing but ridicule them in the same fashion we’ve watched on television for fifty years.

The male characters on the show are so transparent and one-dimensional, its a wonder they even make appearances on-screen. On one hand, it’s nice to see Chad Coleman (Cutty from The Wire) back on television, but his character is a living joke (a black, divorced pro golfer), and does nothing but act dumb about parenting (just like the protagonists rockstar ex-husband) and insult his ex-wife both to her face, and in front of their daughters.

There’s no point writing about the show or the plot of the pilot – which revolves around a racist handicapped kid and a rush to judgement by all adults involved – this show isn’t going to last a month. Easy one to skip this fall.
