First Impressions: 2 Broke Girls

First Impressions: 2 Broke Girls

(airs on CBS, Monday nights at 8:30pm)

From a person who really wrote some episodes of Sex and the City and some comedian named Whitney who is getting more than one crappy show on television at the same time, comes 2 Broke Girls, in what is destined to be the weakest (and shortest-lasting) comedy in the CBS comedy ratings powerhouses. Focused around waitress Max who works hard and has no money (Kat Dennings) who ironically ends up with a rich girl named Caroline (Beth Behrs) who lost her ENTIRE trust fund (gasp!) due to uncontrollable circumstances. What follows is 22 minutes of laugh-tracks, bad jokes, and an ending so clichéd and contrived, you’ll almost think it’s a parody of other bad comedy pilots. How this show engaged a bidding war between the networks is beyond me.

It’s hardly funny, and when the protagonist is so self-deprecating you start believing she is a goofy slut, it quickly becomes tiresome. The icing on the cake is the obnoxious gimmick thrown into the end of the pilot: after reaching a conclusion that a cupcake shop is the answer to all their problems, the episode (and each to follow) ends with a counting tally of how much money they have (yes, it is that lame). Needless to say, there is nothing interesting, redeeming, or original about 2 Broke Girls. However, if you’re looking for a show that guarantees to recycle plot lines from The Odd Couple and The Simple Life, this show will definitely please the shit out of you. SKIP IT!
